Picking the right hard board

Hard boards glide farther, feel more solid under your feet and look amazing. Inflatables roll up, fit in your trunk and handle rocks on the river. Here's the quick version:

  • Pick hard if: you have a roof rack and a place to store it, and you mostly paddle lakes like Saguaro and Canyon.
  • Pick inflatable if: you don't have a rack, you're short on space, or you float the Salt River a lot. (Plus every new inflatable comes with a FREE seat.)

How long should my board be?

  • 10' to 10'6": turns fast, easy to handle, great for smaller riders.
  • 11' to 11'6": the do-everything length. If you're not sure, start here.
  • 12' and up: goes straighter and farther. Great for longer paddles.

Questions we get every day

Do hard boards come with a free seat?

No, the free seat is for new inflatable boards.

Can I try before I buy?

Rent a board from us first and see how you like paddling. Then come back and compare hard and inflatable side by side in the shop.

Hard or inflatable?

Come see both side by side at the shop and we’ll help you pick.
